Rainbow Village Day

December 2022

This year we had the second annual Rainbow Village Day in Humansdorp. With this festive day we want to give attention to and increase local awareness of all the activities at Rainbow Village (link). All the teachers, mentors, staff and students gave their best to make this day as successful as possible. The children could expose and sell their self made goods at the many market stalls. There were fun activities for young and old and people couldn’t help but dance to the music of a local brass band. The learners of King’s College and even the little ones from Noah’s Ark Preschool performed various dances. To bring a little competition to the day there was a chess match between Rainbow and King’s College students. This year the trophy went to King’s College.

A lot of hard work was put into preparing for this day. The Skills Centre woodwork group manufactured many creative and nifty products and the needlework group produced clothing, accessories, bags and other pretty things. Soete Swaan was also present, selling their very popular stroopwafels (Dutch caramel wafels) and bags of leftover crumbs.

The group of visitors was largely made up by family members of the Rainbow Village students. They loved being part of all the festivities and seeing what their children had created. The mayor of the Kouga Municipality also paid a visit and held a short speech, in which he expressed his appreciation of Rainbow and emphasised the importance of this centre for the entire community.
